For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.
PediatricAppropriate studies have not been performed on the relationship of age to the effects of ferric carboxymaltose injection in children younger than 1 year of age. Safety and efficacy have not been established.
GeriatricAppropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of ferric carboxymaltose injection in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more sensitive to the effects of this medicine than younger adults.
BreastfeedingThere are no adequate studies in women for determining infant risk when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.
Drug InteractionsAlthough certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone for the maternal recognition of pregnancy produced by trophoblast cells that are surrounding a growing embryo (syncytiotrophoblast initially), which eventually forms the placenta after implantation.[1][2] The presence of hCG is detected in some pregnancy tests (HCG pregnancy strip tests). Some cancerous tumors produce this hormone; therefore, elevated levels measured when the patient is not pregnant may lead to a cancer diagnosis and, if high enough, paraneoplastic syndromes, however, it is unknown whether this production is a contributing cause or an effect of carcinogenesis. The pituitary analog of hCG, known as luteinizing hormone (LH), is produced in the pituitary gland of males and females of all ages.[1][3]
Beta-hCG is initially secreted by the syncytiotrophoblasHuman chorionic gonadotropin is a glycoprotein composed of 237 amino acids with a molecular mass of 36.7 kDa, approximately 14.5kDa αhCG and 22.2kDa βhCG.[4]
It is heterodimeric, with an α (alpha) subunit identical to that of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and a β (beta) subunit that is unique to hCG.
The two subunits create a small hydrophobic core surrounded by a high surface area-to-volume ratio: 2.8 times that of a sphere. The vast majority of the outer amino acids are hydrophilic.[7]
beta-hCG is mostly similar to beta-LH, with the exception of a Carboxy Terminus Peptide (beta-CTP) containing four glycosylated serine residues that is responsible for hCG's longer half-life.[8]
Function[edit]Human chorionic gonadotropin interacts with the LHCG receptor of the ovary and promotes the maintenance of the corpus luteum for the maternal recognition of pregnancy at the beginning of pregnancy. This allows the corpus luteum to secrete the hormone progesterone during the first trimester. Progesterone enriches the uterus with a thick lining of blood vessels and capillaries so that it can sustain the growing fetus.[9]
It has been hypothesized that hCG may be a placental link for the development of local maternal immunotolerance.[10] For example, hCG-treated endometrial cells induce an increase in T cell apoptosis (dissolution of T cells). These results suggest that hCG may be a link in the development of peritrophoblastic immune tolerance, and may facilitate the trophoblast invasion, which is known to expedite fetal development in the endometrium.[11] It has also been suggested that hCG levels are linked to the severity of morning sickness or hyperemesis gravidarumThe hCG levels grow exponentially after conception and implantation.[21] hCG levels typically peak around weeks 8-11 of pregnancy and are generally higher in the first trimester compared to the second trimester.

Progesterone injection is a type of female hormone given to replace the hormone progestin when the body is not making enough of it. In women who are not pregnant and have not gone through menopause, progesterone is used to restore normal menstrual periods that have stopped for several months (amenorrhea). Progesterone is also used to treat abnormal bleeding from the uterus that is due to low hormone levels and not other causes (e.g., fibroids, cancer of the uterus). Progesterone injection is available in generic form.
To treat amenorrhea, administer five to 10 mg for six to eight consecutive days. For functional uterine bleeding, administer five to 10 mg daily for six doses. If menstrual flow begins during the course of injections of progesterone, they are discontinued.
